On Birth from a Woman by St. Cyprian of Carthage

“It is written in the prophet Isaiah “And the Lord spoke again to Ahaz, saying. “Ask for a sign from the Lord your God … Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive in her womb and bear a Son, and shall call His name  Emmanuel. He shall eat curds and honey; before He knows or brings forth evil, He will exchange it for the good.” (Is 7:10-15). God had predicted that the seed destined to crush the head of the devil would come forth from a  woman. In Genesis, it is written: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her. He will crush your head, and you will strike at His heel” (Gen 3:15)
