Virgin Mary chose to be the Theotokos by Augustine of Hippo

“Thus Christ, in being born of a Virgin who, before knowing to whom she was to give birth, had made up her mind to remain a virgin, preferred to show his approval of holy virginity rather than to impose it on her. Even so, in the woman within whom he took the form of a slave, he wanted her virginity to be freely chosen.”

Augustine of Hippo, De sancia virginitate 2, 4; PL 40, 398; CSEL 41, 238.

God, the Lover of Mankind allows His creation to choose. He has given us freedom and He wants us to choose Him, without force. God wanted Virgin Mary to freely choose to be His mother and submit to His will. In your own life, how do you choose to obey the will of God?
