Virgin Mary, supernatural by Proclus of Constantinople

Splendid and wonderful is the object of today’s celebration! Splendid, because it brought men the long-awaited salvation; wonderful, because the birth transcends the laws of nature. Certainly, a mother giving birth is not unknown to nature. But grace made the one who gave birth and kept her a virgin; it made her a mother without destroying her integrity.

Proclus of Constantinople, Homily 4, 1; PG 65, 708 C-709 B.
