“ “A shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom” (Is 11:1). The shoot is the Mother of the Lord, simple, pure, and sincere, who was not joined to any seed coming from without.”
Jerome, Epist. 22, 19; PL 22, 406.
Virgin Mary’s simplicity, purity and sincerity flowers like a bud from a shoot. Same as the fruits of the Holy Spirit that we should flower in our works. Our works are not only those that we do to earn money, it includes our work on our inner person. Works can include our spiritual struggle to be simple, pure and science. What sort of work a person can do to be a simple, pure and sincere person?
